We are looking for a qualified counsellor with experience working in mental health sector to join our team.
Main duties and responsibilities
1. Providing one-to-one support and pre-prepared psycho-educational sessions for adults with mental health support needs
2. Working collaboratively with Active Minds staff to deliver individual therapy programs to assist adults dealing with anxiety, depression and emotional issues
3. Establishing a relationship of trust and respect with the client
4. Encouraging the client to talk about issues they feel they cannot normally share with others
5. Helping the client towards a deeper understanding of their concerns
6. Helping the client to make decisions and choices regarding possible ways forward
7. Referring the client to other sources of help, as appropriate
8. Undertaking continual assessments of participants’ needs, appropriateness for support and monitor progress
10. Liasing with staff at Active Minds and external agencies on issues relevant to the welfare of the client
11. Working within Mind’s Confidentiality Policy, Safeguarding Policy and other relevant policies
12. Participating in clinical and management supervision and training as required
Person Specification
1. A relevant qualification and membership of ap rofessional body
2. At least 2 years of post-qualification experience of working with people with mental health support needs
3. Experience of working with vulnerable adults and a knowledge/understanding of safeguarding of vulnerable adults issues
4. Experience of working with adults with serious emotional difficulties
5. Awareness of own skills and abilities and of when to refer onto others
6. Knowledge of mental health services locally
7. Willingness to work in new and innovative ways
8. Committment to non-discriminatory and non-judgmental practice.
A criminal record check is required together with two satisfactory references.
